2 DAYS CAPACITY STRENGTHENING WORKSHOP FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN EBONYI STATE
(POLICE, CIVIL DEFENCE, THE NIGERIA CORRECTIONAL SERVICES) ON HOW TO PREVENT AND RESPOND
TO VAWG/SGBV/HP AND LINKAGES TO OTHER PROGRAMMES AND SERVICES.
This training was conducted between 13th and 14th February, 2020 at Top View Hotel,
Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. This training targeted mainly the Desk Officers on gender related
cases in Police divisions in Abakaliki and Ezza South LGAs. There were also representatives
from Nigeria Correctional Service and Civil Defence.
Capacities of the participants were strengthened on rapid response to VAWG/SGBV/HP. Other
issues such as challenges faced by the law enforcement agencies on effective rapid response
to GBV cases. Most of the challenges raised by the participants require high level advocacy
while some will be resolved through State level advocacy. ESERC has reported these
challenges to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), expecting that they will be
involved in carrying out high level advocacies to address some challenges faced by the law
enforcement agencies.
Participants were also linked to the Community Advocacy Groups on GBV (CAG-GBV), who have
been trained in 10 communities in Abakaliki and Ezza South LGAs. The essence is for the law
enforcement agencies to work hand-in-hand with the community advocacy groups especially in
providing information to the law enforcement agencies for rapid response.
Among the participants includes:
⦁ The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
⦁ DPOs from different Police divisions in the Abakaliki and Ezza South LGAs.
⦁ Police Desk Officers on gender related cases.
⦁ Officers from Nigeria Correctional Services
⦁ Officers from Nigeria Civil Defence.
